Questions, answered
Do applicants consent to the credit check?
Yes. The applicant reviews and signs consent before anything is requested from our screening partner, and the signed consent is kept with the report.
How do I know the report belongs to the applicant?
Every credit check comes with identity verification. The applicant photographs a government-issued photo ID and takes a selfie, which is biometrically matched to the photo on the ID. You see the result alongside the credit report.
How is income verified?
Applicants securely connect their bank, so the income comes from the source rather than uploaded files. You see the verified result, never their banking credentials.
What's in the report?
A TenantBird Score out of 100; the credit score, debt-to-income, and rent-to-income; payment history, open accounts, inquiries, and collections; the identity check; and verified income broken down by source.
How long does it take?
Most reports come back within minutes once the applicant completes their part.
Who pays for screening?
The landlord: $29 CAD per screened applicant, charged to the card on file. No subscription, and applicants are never charged.
Does this affect the applicant's credit score?
The check is run through our screening partner with the applicant's consent, and is intended to be a soft inquiry that does not affect their credit score.
